Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.

If you have a question that has not been answered below, then please send it to info@sunstrip.com.tr

What temperature can Sunstrip's absorbers withstand?
The filler and paste that Sunstrip uses have a melting temperature close to 280° C. This normally exceeds by far the temperatures reached in a solar collector, even, for instance, in the Mediterranean area. Twenty years' experience using this solution has shown that our absorbers are able to withstand the temperatures that arise in a solar collector.

What are the advantages of using aluminium strips?
The light and rigid construction has proved far superior to other alternatives for large-scale plants, thanks to unlimited raw materials, low material costs, environmental consideration etc.

Why should I choose a sputtered selective surface rather than a selective black chrome surface?
The most important reason is that Sunstrip's sputtered surface performs better than a black chrome surface. A sputtered production means that the surface coating is carried out using a completely dry method, i.e. there are no chemicals or wet waste products, in contrast to a black chrome surface.

Why should I choose a strip with a so-called selective surface instead of just painting my absorber black?
The selective surface gives a more balanced usage of solar energy. You can benefit from the sun for a longer period - in the morning and evening, and in the spring and autumn. On a yearly basis the selective surface is 20-30% more efficient than a painted surface.

Can you recycle Sunstrip after you have rolled in a copper tube between the aluminium strips?
It is normally not a good idea to mix materials as we have done with Sunstrip. However, the advantage with this combination is that Sapa Heat Transfer, who is our supplier of aluminium strips, is able to recycle the whole product. Sapa needs copper in their aluminium alloys, so they quite simply dilute their aluminium cast compound with Sunstrip strips in order to acquire the correct amount of copper in the molten liquid. You can read the agreement between Sunstrip and Sapa under the homepage-heading Environment.

Why has Sunstrip launched a new type of absorber - Lazerplate?
We would first like to say that investment of Sunstrip as a separate product continues as before. No other strips are used as much in large-scale plants where performance is of prime importance, see the reference list. Sunstrip is, therefore, enlarging its product program with a so-called Fullplate absorber. A number of FP absorbers were produced earlier, but the technology that was available then did not appeal to Sunstrip. However, a laser-welding technique has now become an excellent method of combining aluminium and copper. The design is as good as the market demands and the technique used is clean as it does not require chemicals or produce other pollutants. Last but not least, Sunstrip's vision has been leading the market in strips and absorbers during the past four years, so it seemed quite natural for us to develop a new absorber.
